Low Light: Coming in for the night

Sailboat at Pier Park by Mary Stebbins Taitt, click image to view larger. Just at sunset about 1 minute before the sun went behind the trees. The sun sets on the wrong side for good water sunsets; I'd have to get there at dawn, an unlikely prospect. Posted by Picasa

I can see that this also was a special light moment. It is very atmospheric. But I can see it was also difficult to get the exposure right. I have many of those moments. 3 of my last sailing shots were like that and it took me for ever to get them to look anywhere near right and still I wasn't happy with them. But on those occasions you don't really get long enough to experiment. I know that with RAW you can rescue many more shots though. I do like this but the water looks far too deep blue. For a low light shot though it is great. I love the golden look of the boat.

I don't know why the water looked like that! I did NOT crank up the saturation at all. I wonder if I could desaturate it a little.

I have not been able to shoot in raw since I've been having trouble with my computer and can't process raw--I am back to using photoshop7 because of issues with my computer.
